Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt has announced the creation of a task force to study potential uses, benefits and security vulnerabilities of artificial intelligence and generative artificial intelligence.
According to a release from the governor’s office, the task force will contribute to a goal of modernizing and streamlining state government. Among other things, it will help to identify ways in which AI can be used to make government more efficient, to improve education, and to prepare the state’s workforce for the economy of the future.
“AI has the potential to revolutionize the way our society operates,” Stitt said. “The private sector is already finding ways to use it to increase efficiency. Potential exists for the government to use AI to root out inefficiencies and duplicate regulations, and it is an essential piece of developing a workforce that can compete on a global level.”
The AI task force will study, evaluate and develop policy and administrative recommendations for the deployment of AI and GenAI and report findings to the governor. Stitt’s order also calls on directors of state agencies to charge one person on their team with becoming an AI and GenAI expert.
