11.4.23 – Soo Leader

The officer was responding to an alarm at the Department of Health and Human Services building

A two-vehicle crash Saturday afternoon that involved a Sault Ste. Marie police officer sent one to hospital.

The crash occurred at 3:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon at the intersection of M-129 and 3 Mile Road.

Soo Leader was on scene minutes after the collision occurred.

The police car was eastbound on 3 Mile Road with lights and sirens heading to an alarm at the Department of Health and Human Services just east of this intersection when the crash happened.

The officer was able to walk away from his patrol car, which sustained heavy front-end damage.

The lone person in the other car was trapped inside, according to fire personnel at the scene. Sault Ste. Marie Fire Department used the jaws of life.

That person was taken to MyMichigan Medical Center – Sault with injuries.

The accident is under investigation by the Michigan State Police.
