A proposal that would ask voters whether they want the Legislature to have the ability to reject state agency regulations advanced Monday in the House, despite appearing in jeopardy last week.
The proposed constitutional amendment would give legislators the ability to reject an agency rule or regulation. Currently, lawmakers have no such powers, though a range of officials, including the attorney general and secretary of state, must sign off on rule and regulation changes.
It passed on a 85-39 vote Monday, hitting the needed threshold of support in order to advance.
Last week, the House fell short of the required two-thirds supermajority amid dissent in the Republican caucus, a snowstorm and an insufficient number of Democrats flipping to support the legislation.
