4.10.24 – KOCO – OKLAHOMA CITY

Oklahoma City is making waves in the job market, recently being named the 5th hottest job market in the U.S. by the Wall Street Journal.

Will Rogers World Airport has reported record-high numbers in the first three months of the year, with a significant portion attributed to business travel.

“I can say we’ve definitely seen an increase in that,” said Jeff Mulder, director of airports at Will Rogers World Airport. “All positive signs for the health of the economy here in Oklahoma City.”

The Wall Street Journal’s story had Oklahoma City ranked above Dallas, Nashville and Miami.

“We have one of the fastest growing metro areas, and we have some of the fastest growing counties in Oklahoma and in the U.S. So, candidly, it’s no surprise but it’s nice to see these rankings,” said Jeff Seymour with the OKC Chamber.

The recognition from the Wall Street Journal not only boosts the city’s reputation, but airport officials said it helps them grow even more.

“Usually, that’s always important to the airlines also,” Mulder said. “We’re going to take that information and use that to wave the flag as much as we can.”

The OKC Chamber said they are happy with the findings, but they said success to them is sustainability.

“The market is on a good trajectory. I think that the thing that we love in our market is there’s thoughtful conversations around ‘Where do we go next?'” Seymour said.
