Steuben County residents will see a faster emergency response rate before the end of the year.
The Steuben County Legislature just approved a plan to streamline emergency calls.
The Automated Secure Alarm Protocol (ASAP) will send information from automated alarm systems like ADT and Doyle directly to 911 staff.
Alarm companies will no longer need to dial into the 911 center, allowing a faster emergency response rate throughout the county.
“One of the benefits of this program also will be on a day like today, where the wind and the weather are so adverse, alarm calls, break-in calls, things like that are always higher during these type of weather events,” Tina Goodwin, Deputy Director of Steuben County 911, said. “This system will greatly help the response time as well as the workload on the 911 team.”
The plan will also reduce the number of calls the center handles annually, which usually averages at more than 95,000 calls.
The new $15,665 system, which is budgeted by the legislature, is looking to be implemented in late Septemeber.
