The Kansas Department of Labor released its numbers for the January 2024 labor market.

According to the KDOL, Kansas unemployment dropped from 2.8% in Jan. 2023 to 2.6% in Jan. 2024. From December, nonfarm payroll employment dropped by 1,200, private sector jobs decreased by 1,800 and government jobs increased by 600.

“The average unemployment rate for Kansas was 2.7% in 2023,” Kansas Secretary of Labor Amber Shultz said. “January 2024 shows continually low unemployment, with an unemployment rate of 2.6%.”

Since January 2023, the total number of nonfarm jobs increased by 8,500 due to an increase of 7,000 private sector jobs and an increase of 1,500 government jobs.Kansas troopers ticket more 100 mph drivers

From the monthly data at-a-glance report from KDOL, the labor force saw a 1,172 decrease in January for an annual decrease of 3,060. Bringing the labor force participation rate down by 0.5% since 2023.
