HB1466 is headed to the Governor’s desk.

This Bill allows the Texas Fire Marshal to require CEU credits. NESA , TBFAA and affiliates would be able to offer CEU credits if the Texas Fire Marshal adopts the requirement in Administrative rules.

 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
 AN ACT
 relating to the regulation of certain continuing education
 programs.
        BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
        SECTION 1.  Section 6002.159, Insurance Code, is amended by
 amending Subsection (b) and adding Subsection (c) to read as
 follows:
        (b)  The commissioner may not adopt a rule that excludes or
 devalues a signed or otherwise substantially verifiable
 certificate of training that is:
              (1)  applicable to the areas of work authorized by the
 relevant license; and
              (2)  issued by a training program or school that is:
                    (A)  nationally recognized; or
                    (B)  authorized under the Occupations Code or
 Education Code.
        (c)  The commissioner may not adopt a rule that requires more
 than eight hours of [Participation in the] continuing education for
 any license renewal period [programs is voluntary].
        SECTION 2.  This Act takes effect immediately if it receives
 a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as
 provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this
 Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this
 Act takes effect September 1, 2023.
