Michael Fraser, a security expert appeared on This Morning today and said 'you've got to think like a burglar'

He joked that burglars ‘can’ read: ‘Don’t hang a calendar with holiday dates right near the window – they will come back when they know you’re away.

The security expert also said: ‘If you have a two lock system and don’t use the dead lock then a burglar can tell.’

He also went on to talk about ‘Beware of the dog’ signs that many people have on their doors to deter burglars today.

‘If the dog can move around in the house then so can a burglar – so that means an alarm is not on,’ he said.

Earlier he spoke about the doorbells with cameras in, which allow the home owner to be alerted when someone is outside.

‘You could be in the bath or anywhere in the house and they will never know that. ‘

‘The problem is an opportunist is always look for a house where there is absolutely no security. The more you do to your house the more they are to move on and go to another house,’ he said.

He also said the metal letterboxes, which hang as a basket on your doors, are great as they stop letterbox fishing.

‘What they will do is put a pole through your letterbox and try and get keys on anything which may be on the side.’

‘Also, don’t put your keys inside the door or leave handbags there – take them upstairs.’
