9.9.22 – The Post – Athens, OH
Athens City Council met Monday to hear from committees, including the Committee of the Whole and the Planning and Development Committee, who discussed possible fee changes and a special permit for The Dairy Barn Art Center to have a new sign on city property.
The Committee of the Whole discussed possible fee changes, including a 3% increase in sewage fees and a possible increase to $400 in the Celebration Tree Program, recommended by the Shade Tree Commission.
Another fee included in that ordinance is an alarm activation fee, which would be applied to people who set off a false fire alarm. Ohio University is not included in the payment of that fee.
The false alarm would be passed to the fire department, who would then pass it to the police department. The police department would send the bill to the individual, who would then either pay it or appeal it.
The Planning and Development Committee discussed a Title 14 special permit use. The Dairy Barn Art Center would use that permit to replace the sign on city property.
The current sign is located at the intersection of Dairy Lane and Richland Ave. The new sign would be 62 square feet.
