If you are shopping for a security system for your home or business, the Better Business Bureau wants you to use caution. This is one of those industries in which you may be approached by an unsolicited salesperson door-to-door or on the phone. That should be an immediate red flag, according to one investigator with the BBB.

Don O’Brien tells The Big Z these pitches often will target seniors, especially those that display signs or window stickers indicating the house is already protected by an alarm system.

Consumers searched BBB for information about alarm companies more than 422,000 times last year. Many of the complaints involve billing issues, defective equipment, poor installation, or misleading sales practices.
