A Jackson woman has filed a lawsuit accusing an employee of a home security provider of rummaging through her home and stealing medication while he was there to install an alarm system, then threatening her to keep quiet.
Lashia Thomas filed the lawsuit in late February against the worker and his employer, Defenders Inc., a licensed provider for ADT. It also names ADT and others.
The owner of the local Defenders Inc. couldn’t be reached for comment. ADT corporate spokesman Adam Feigen said Friday in an emailed statement that the company doesn’t comment on litigation.
Thomas said in the lawsuit, filed by attorney Ashley Ogden, that on or about Oct. 17, she signed a contract with the defendants to have an alarm system installed to replace an old system.
She said while the installer was in the house, he went into her bedroom and the rooms of her children and other parts of the home rummaging through drawers.
She said she saw the installer take a bottle of medication from her bedroom table.
“The plaintiff confronted the installer and was told by defendant … that she better keep
quiet because he knows where she lives,” according to the lawsuit.
Thomas, five months pregnant at the time, said she called the police and the installer’s boss to report the theft and threat. The installer fled the property with the medication prior to authorities arriving, she said.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory and punitive damages.
