As we move into the second half of 2024, there are a few acts and laws that will take effect in Louisiana on July 1.

Nearly halfway through 2024, here is a list of new laws that go into effect on—or after—July 1, including one beginning on Independence Day that allows law-abiding citizens to carry a concealed handgun without a permit.

Governor Jeff Landry signed Senate Bill 152 in March.

“Today, we made good on our promise to deliver sweeping reforms to our criminal justice system. Reforms that put the interests of victims before the interests of criminals,” Landry said at the time of the signing three months ago. “Reforms that uplift and support our police officers. Reforms that deliver true justice to the victims of crime. Reforms that make our streets and communities safer for all.”
