  • Catastrophic storm strains St. Louis’ 9-1-1 system
    7.7.23 – The Associated Press –  A severe storm system left the St. Louis 9-1-1 system “overwhelmed” last week, with 1,000 calls in an hour and exposing the need to upgrade the system, officials said. In one case, responses to reports of a woman and child hit by falling trees were delayed, and the two later died.

  • Oregon’s accidental 911 calls jump 40% in a year
    7.14.23 – KTVZ – Oregon’s 43 Public Safety Answering Points have seen a 40% increase in accidental dialing of 911 over the past year. “As harmless as 911 hang-up calls may seem, they impact resources,” explained Oregon Department of Emergency Management State 911 Program Manager Frank Kuchta.
