Gov. Asa Hutchinson says he’s considering calling a special session of the Arkansas Legislature later this year to take up tax relief and other proposals to tap into the state’s growing surplus.

Finance officials said Friday that they expected the state’s surplus to hit $1 billion by the end of the fiscal year.

Hutchinson said he was weighing proposals that include using the money to expand broadband access and address school facility funding needs.

Hutchinson said a decision wouldn’t come until at least mid- to late summer.
