OKLAHOMA CITY (KOKH) — At a press conference Wednesday, Gov. Kevin Stitt said that the coronavirus situation in Oklahoma is “significantly different” than in other states, but that Oklahoma must not take their foot off the gas.
The governor said that Oklahoma is on track for phase two of the plan to reopen the state.
Stitt stressed that Oklahomans must continue to social distance and wash their hands in an effort to mitigate the spread of the coronavirus.ADVERTISING
Stitt also said that the “Safer at Home” order is still in place for the vulnerable population and those over age 65 until May 15.
The governor announced that by the weekend, the state will have 90,000 additional swabs for testing and 250,000 N-95 masks for Oklahoma’s first responders and essential workers.
The governor said that Oklahoma is “doing a fantastic job flattening the curve,” and that Oklahoma has the eighth fewest cases out of any state in the country.

Stitt also announced that Oklahoma has the lowest infection rate in the region and the lowest across the entire Sun Belt.

Stitt said that a month ago, 10% of tests in Oklahoma came back positive, but since the statewide reopening began, the percentages of tests coming back positive have declined.
Stitt said that when the statewide reopening began, 5.9% of tests came back positive.

The governor said that if you are feeling symptoms or want to be tested, the state wants you to be tested.
He said that Oklahoma has enough tests and 80 testing sites for people to be tested.
