‘Every day is different’: Ala. county dispatchers reflect on 911 improvements and challenges

Halfway between Decatur and Hartselle, a small team of 911 dispatchers answer 230,000 emergency calls per year for Morgan County’s 34 law enforcement, fire and EMS agencies.

Smart devices sending flurry of errant 9-1-1 calls

Dispatchers around the Washington, D.C. area are reporting accidental 9-1-1 calls from iPhones and other Apple devices that can be triggered by dropping the device. Because the devices can report genuine emergencies, dispatchers will send first responders to the scene if they cannot determine if the call is fake.

Daytime Burglar Using a Signal Jammer Apprehended

A signal-jamming device was also found in the rear of the vehicle. This device was specifically designed to scramble Wi-Fi and cellular signals and is illegal to operate under federal law.
